Congratulations to Dr. Jason DeWitt on his Ph.D.

The Department of Philosophy congratulates Jason DeWitt, who successfully defended his dissertation in April and will soon receive his Ph.D. in Philosophy from The Ohio State University.
Jason DeWitt has defended his dissertation, "Pragmatist Realism in the Metaphysics of Science." His advisor was Professor Chris Pincock.
Jason’s dissertation develops and defends a pragmatist realism in the metaphysics of science, offering a critique of expressivist neopragmatist approaches. He identifies a fundamental tension in global neopragmatism and argues that pragmatist realist views of causation and metaphysical modality offer a more compelling framework. His work shows that we can begin with the functional role of scientific concepts while still maintaining a robust metaphysical realism about them.
The department celebrates Jason’s achievement and wishes him continued success in his future endeavors.
